AI Capability Roll-out Strategy
AI features will be released incrementally by function to ensure a smooth transition and allow opportunity for review and approval for use at the Institution.
Customers can opt-in for early notice of new AI capability releases using this form.
Each release will be supported with training resources to enable adoption and internal guidance.
AI Exclusion Process
By written request to DigitalEd at support@digitaled.com, individuals with the authority to speak on behalf of the Institution, may opt out of AI functionality within your Institution’s Möbius tenant.
AI Configuration Options
Detailed configuration settings will be made available to enable or disable specific AI features within the platform, controlled at the Möbius Administrator's level of access.
We remain dedicated to ensuring that our AI enhancements bring value to our customers while upholding data privacy, security, and user control. If you have any questions or concerns regarding AI implementation, please feel free to contact DigitalEd's Support Team.
European Union AI Act compliance
The European Union AI Act aims to minimize the risks associated with AI systems, particularly those that could infringe on citizens' fundamental rights, such as privacy, freedom of expression, and non-discrimination.
DigitalEd as an AI Distributor, has taken the following steps to ensure compliance with the Act:
Establishing, implementing, documenting, and maintaining a risk management system to address the risks posed by a high-risk AI system;
Implementing effective data governance (bias mitigation, etc.), which involves training, validating, and testing data sets;
Maintaining requisite up-to-date technical documentation in a clear and comprehensive manner;
Ensuring that high-risk AI systems technically allow for the automatic recording of events (logs) over the lifetime of the system;
Development and design of high-risk AI systems in such a way as to ensure that their operation is sufficiently transparent to enable deployers to interpret a system’s output and use it appropriately and to facilitate both providers and deployers in achieving compliance with their relevant obligations;
Development and design of high-risk AI systems in a manner that they can have proper human oversight during the period in which they are in use;
Development and design of high-risk AI systems in a manner that they maintain an appropriate level of accuracy, robustness and cybersecurity throughout their lifecycle.
AI Engine Overview (Aidan AI™)
DigitalEd will be leveraging a commercial AI Engine for its artificial intelligence capabilities. We have selected the Vertex AI Platform from the Google Cloud suite, pairing with our current Google Cloud Platform (GCP) infrastructure.
Aidan AI™ utilizes the generative artificial intelligence capabilities of Google Cloud Platform's Vertex AI. DigitalEd, by means of this integration, furnishes educators with an advanced AI-assisted interface for the expedited generation of instructional materials, including questions, lessons, and assignments, within the Möbius learning environment. Data security is maintained through the implementation of rigorous protocols, specifically: the exclusion of user-submitted data from AI model training datasets, the prohibition of data dissemination to third-party entities or other educational institutions, and the governance of data processing in accordance with monitoring procedures outlined in Appendix D of DigitalEd’s Data Processor Agreement.
We selected the Vertex AI Platform as it provides end-to-end model lifecycle management, robust security features, and enterprise-grade compliance which are aligned with one of Möbius’s core Technology Pillars of Technology Without Compromise: Innovate and adopt the state-of-the-art, while enabling global, secure deployment via dynamic cloud-native processes, and standards-compliant policies.
The selection of this platform for our AI needs centers on our ability to configure it to align with our data handling and privacy requirements. A primary tenet of our use of the Vertex AI engine is to ensure that user inputs are processed as ephemeral prompts, ensuring they are not stored or retained beyond their immediate use. As a result, the following strategies are employed:
Disabling Prompt Caching: prompt caching is typically employed to reduce latency and costs by reusing identical inputs. In order to eliminate the risk of User, Student, or University data sharing as a result of the use of the AI features in Möbius, this feature is disabled by not including the cache_control parameter in all requests.
Disabling Prompt Storage: the Vertex AI platform includes functionalities to save and manage prompts. Our implementation in Möbius will prevent user inputs from being stored, by avoiding using these methods to save prompts, ensuring that prompts are not inadvertently stored in the online resource.
Strict Data Handling Policies: In accordance with DigitalEd’s SOC2 compliance and GDPR compliance frameworks, we established and continuously enforce policies that dictate the handling of user inputs; both within the Möbius Platform and in our internal support and service practices. All applications interacting with the Vertex AI engine process user inputs in-memory and discard them immediately after use without writing them to persistent storage.
Consistent Security Controls: The Vertex AI Platform we selected to implement AI features in Möbius provides a wide variety of security controls to manage how data is accessed and protected. Data encryption and access management configurations are consistent with DigitalEd’s Data Processor Agreement, and comply with GDPR requirements.
