The Weight of Workload: A Growing Challenge

One of the more prominent themes that surfaced was the escalating workload faced by educators. It’s not just about delivering lectures anymore; rather, today’s educators are juggling a multitude of responsibilities, from bridging student knowledge gaps to providing essential mental health check-ins. As one instructor shared, “I am tracking attendance for all classes and reporting grades to Student Success multiple times during the semester. I email students who have submitted assignments. I offer multiple dates for most exams. I am doing mental health check-ins and reporting students with financial issues.”

This anecdote isn’t an outlier. It reflects a systemic issue: the need for institutions to reassess faculty workload allocation and provide adequate support. Are we truly valuing the time and dedication educators invest in shaping the next generation?

Resourcefulness in the Digital Age

In the face of these challenges, educators are demonstrating remarkable resourcefulness. According to our report, 50% of educators rely on a combination of online learning platforms and traditional textbooks to craft engaging lessons. Moreover, an impressive 26% are creating their own resources, further showcasing their commitment to personalized learning experiences.

Active Learning: Beyond Passive Consumption

While lectures still hold a place in the classroom (23%), educators are increasingly embracing active learning methodologies. Group work and discussions (24%) and project-based learning (15%) are gaining traction, reflecting a shift toward more interactive and engaging learning experiences.
